Silicon polarimetric detector arrays for millimetric and sub-millimetric astronomy
We started the development, under an ESA contract, of all-silicon detector arrays with in-pixel polarimetric capabilities for the SPICA Observatory. The prototypes, adapted to 100 µm wavelength, are available for tests and show good results. The next detectors are currently adapted to longer wavelengths by the use of high-impedance surfaces as reflectors. In parallel, we study the possibility to integrate a structure on the arrays (etalon or tunable Fabry-Perot) to introduce, in addition, a spectroscopic capability.
We envisage the use of these new arrays in the Co-PILOT, balloon-borne observatory, and in the ArTeMiS camera on the APEX telescope in Chile. These solutions can be adapted, in collaboration with other groups, to future instruments.
